VIA Art Prize Finalist

Nice to had the company of friends & family at the opening ceremony : ) even my little Gabo!

I am glad to share the news that my piece Aves Costeras, has been selected among the finalists for this year's VIA Art Prize. The artwork was born out of a lifelong fascination for the ocean and folk art, which normally depicts innocent subject matter found in nature: birds, fishes, animals, plants, flowers and insects. Honoured that one of my favourite pieces will be part of this special exhibition taking place from the 7th until 23rd of November at the Embassy of Brazil in London - who are kindly hosting and organizing the exhibition and awards ceremony.

Me complace compartir la noticia de que mi pieza, Aves Costeras, ha sido seleccionada entre los finalistas para el Premio VIA Art Prize de este año. La obra de arte nació de mi fascinación por el océano y el arte folklórico, que normalmente representa de forma inocente elementos del entorno natural: aves, peces, animales, plantas, flores e insectos. Me alegra que una de mis piezas favoritas sea parte de esta exposición especial que tendrá lugar del 7 al 23 de noviembre en la Embajada de Brasil en Londres, quien acoge y organiza amablemente la exposición y la entrega de premios.

Illustration Exhibition: Wild and Civilised

Very happy to share the news that I will be taking part in the upcoming exhibition 'Wild and Civilised' organised by the AOI (Association of Illustrators) and Cass Art London. "Works in ink and watercolour show the versatility of this medium. The exhibition includes work which demonstrate intricate detail often association with botanical work, alongside others which capture the raw energy of nature. From street scenes to portraits, animals to landscapes this is an alluring and charming exhibition." 

Delighted to share a glimpse of my artwork called 'A Day in the Rainforest' which depicts the wonders of the fauna and flora of the Central American Rainforest. A piece that celebrates the magical beauty of these exuberant, hot and dense forests and the active role of the sun to give life, colour and joy to animals and plants, (some of them in threat of extinction like the Torogoz and Quetzal Birds).

Some of the attractions of the fair include the lovely Matchbox Project Fundraising Catalogue & Exhibition organised by The House of Fairy Tales who kindly invited me to create a piece for their exhibition. The Showcase 100 Exhibition officially opened its doors yesterday at the Framer's Gallery in central London. An excellent art space in the heart of the Fitzrovia area in London. Showcase 100 is a juried exhibition and publication of 100 illustrations from around the world. I am very chuffed that my piece Animafauna will be amongst the final 100 artworks to be on display and available to purchase at the show, as will the accompanying book (now on sale here). If you live in London I invite you to come along to the private view to be held tomorrow Thursday, April 9th between 6 - 8pm. Above you can see a selection of interesting works on display.

**Animafuna is a special piece, reminiscent of children's imaginative story tales which have inspired my creativity and illustrative style since my childhood in El Salvador. It depicts the story of a charming flora and fauna scene that celebrates the beauty and existence of Central American endangered wildlife species like the porcupines, Tigrillos (wild cats) and exotic birds like the Torogoz, El Salvador's national bird since 1999.

La exhibición Showcase100 abrió oficialmente sus puertas ayer en la Galería Framers en el centro de Londres. Un excelente espacio de arte en el corazón de la área de Fitzrovia en Londres. Showcase100 es una exhibición y publicación de 100 ilustraciones por artistas de todo el mundo. Estoy muy contenta que mi pieza Animfauna está entre los 100 artes exhibidos y disponibles para comprar en el show, así como el libro que acompaña la muestra (de venta online). Si vives en Londres te envito a que vengas al lanzamiento a ser llevado a cabo mañana jueves 9 de abril entre 6 y 8 pm. Arriba pueden ver una selección de los interesantes trabajos siendo exhibidos.

Very excited for today's solo exhibition at the Embassy of El Salvador in London, it's been hard work to put the exhibition together, (my first solo show ever) it wouldn't have been possible without the amazing help of my other half who has helped me to cut out countless illustrated pieces, editing of images, video, the list is long...but glad to see the result of many late nights now on display at the Embassy. Can't wait to show you images, on Instagram I am also sharing sneak peeks and work in progress of the exhibition and other projects. The exhibition has featured this week in the Spanish press news : )

Muy emocionada por la exhibición de hoy en la Embajada de El Salvador en Londres, ha sido mucho trabajo (mi primera exhibición individual) nada hubiera sido posible sin la increíble ayuda de mi esposo quien me ha ayudado a cortar, pegar infinidad de piezas ilustradas, editar imágenes, el video, la lista es larga...pero contenta de ver el resultado de muchas noches largas ahora en display en la Embajada. No me aguanto por mostrarles las imágenes, en Instagram yo también estoy constantemente poniendo fotos del trabajo en progreso, etc. La exhibición ha aprecido esta semana en uno de los periódicos en español de Londres : )

On Thursday December 11 there will be a special exposition of my work and official launch of my brand Gabote, a unique collection of ceramic and textiles made in London and El Salvador, hosted by the Embassy of El Salvador in London.
Beginning with a talk about the inspirations behind my work, techniques used and how designs and patterns are reproduced on the fabric and applied by hand on ceramics; the exposition includes original paintings, prints, fabric, hand painted textile accessories, ceramic and home ware inspired by my interest in storytelling and the marine world, alongside a special project of hand embroidered pieces made in collaboration with artisan women of La Palma, El Salvador. El jueves 11 de diciembre habrá una exposición especial de mi trabajo y lanzamiento oficial de Gabote, mi colección de textiles y cerámica de edición limitada, organizada por la Embajada de El Salvador en Londres. Inciando con una charla en donde hablaré sobre mi inspiración para el desarrollo de las piezas, la reproducción de los estampados sobre la tela y la razón de ser de los mismos, la exposición incluye pinturas originales, prints, tela, accesorios textiles pintados a mano y accesorios para el hogar inspirados en mi interés por cuentos de historia y el mundo marino junto con piezas bordadas a mano en colaboración con mujeres de la conocida ciudad artesanal de La Palma, El Salvador. This is Animafauna one of my latest watercolour and brush painted pieces. Chuffed to know that it has recently been selected to be exhibited in London at the Showcase 100 International Exhibition & Publication in April 2105. Les presento a Animafauna, una de mis últimas piezas pintadas en trazo y acuarela. Muy contenta de saber que ha sido recientemente seleccionado para ser exhibido en Londres en la exhibición y publicación internacional Showcase 100 a ser realizada en abril del 2015. Esta es una pieza especial evocativa de los cuentos de historia que han inspirado mi creatividad y estilo ilustrativo desde mi niñez en El Salvador. Esta retrata la historia de un encantador escenario de flora y fauna que celebra la existencia y belleza de vida salvaje en peligro de extinción como los puercoespines, los tigrillos y pájaros exóticos como el Torogoz, ave nacional de El Salvador desde 1999.

Yesterday took place the opening celebration of Sheringdale Art Project Exhibition at Southfields Gallery. Congratulations to Cissy Cook, who did a great job organising the event which includes works by Wandsworth and Merton Artists and Sheringdale Children. The exhibition has been a total success to raise funds for  the Prince of Wales Children and the Arts Foundation and it has been extended for one week more due to the public's great response. Above you can see a selection of images including artworks by talented artists friends like Tracey English and Elena García de la Fuente.

Ayer se llevó a cabo la celebración de apertura de la exhibición del Proyecto de Arte de Sheringdale en la Galería de Southfields. Felicidades a Cissy Cook, quien hizo una gran labor organizando el evento que incluye obras de artistas de Wandsworth y Merton y los niños de Sheringdale.  La exhibición ha sido todo un éxito para recaudar fondos para la Fundación de Artes y Niños del Príncipe de Gales y se ha extendido por una semana más debido a la grandiosa respuesta del público.

Colourful Deep Sea Creatures is the name of the piece I have created for next week's Sheringdale Art Project Exhibition. Coloridas Criaturas de las Profundidades Marinas es el nombre de la pieza que he creado para la exposición del Proyecto de Arte de Sheringdale. Inspirada por mi amor al mundo marino, los estampados, cuentos y libros infantiles tales como Marea de Lletres por Susana del Baño y World Rat Day por J. Patrick Lewis and Anna Raff. This week took place the launch of a Kid's Art Expo at De Gallery, El Salvador where a selection of my artworks are being exhibited along with the artist Virginia Franco. Many of these pieces are totally new, not seen before by the public. As you can see on the pictures, my artwork for the book Work/Life 3, 'Climbing up the Hill' is also being exhibited (see previous link) along with other artworks like Globe Fish and Square Fish, my beloved turtles and their new wandering friends, the porcupines, some very coquette girls called Muñecazas and the colourful Abcdanimals series, inspired by a very special typography, (will tell you more about this news in another post). 

Very happy to share my work in El Salvador. A shame I cannot be there to see the exhibition in person - in any case the pictures manage to capture the splendid work done by De Gallery. Many thanks to them for the opportunity! The exhibition has been extended and will be open to the public for two weeks more.

Esta semana se llevó a cabo en El Salvador la apertura de la exposición de artes de niños en De Gallery donde se exhiben y pueden adquirir una selección de mis trabajos junto con los de la artista Virginia Franco. Muchos de ellos trabajos nuevos, no antes vistos por el público. Como pueden ver en las fotos, mi arte para el libro Work/Life 3, 'Subiendo la Montaña', también está siendo exhibido (ver link anterior), junto con otros artes como Pez Cuadro y Pez Globo, mis queridas tortugas y sus nuevos amigos de andanzas, los puercoespines, unas muy coquetas chicas llamadas Muñecazas y la serie colorida de Abcdanimals, inspirada en una tipografía muy especial (les contaré más sobre esta noticia en otro post). 

Muy contenta de compartir mi trabajo en El Salvador. Una lástima que no puedo estar ahí para la exhibición sin embargo las fotos logran capturar el espléndido trabajo hecho por De Gallery a quienes les agradezco infinitamente la oportunidad. Una muy buena noticia es que la exposición ha sido extendida y estará abierta al público por dos semanas más.  

My piece for Mail Me Art Project

This is my piece for the Mail Me Art: Short and Sweet Project I have called it Imaginatura. This and all the mailed handmade pieces by artists invited, will be exhibited in London at The Framers Gallery 30th July - 3rd August 2013.
A book showcasing all the artworks will also be published - money raised from sale of artworks will be given to various charities including Water Aid, Teenage Cancer Trust and Animal Aid.
It was fun experimenting with new techniques. In the beginning I thought I was going to use watercolours but on picture above you can see what I ended up using instead : o ) tape! always handy when you send post.

Esta es mi pieza de arte para el proyecto Mail Me Art: Short and Sweet Project lo he llamado Imaginatura. Este y todas las piezas hechas a mano enviadas por artistas invitados serán exhibidas en Londres en la galería The Framers del 30 de julio al 3 de agosto de 2013. Un libro también será publicado incluyendo todos los artes enviados. El dinero generado de la venta de los artes será dado a varios organismos de ayuda como Water Aid, Teenage Cancer Trust y Animal Aid. Fue divertido experimentar con nuevas técnicas, al principio pensé que iba a utilizar acuarelas pero en imagen arriba pueden ver lo que terminé usando en vez : o ) cinta adhesiva! siempre a la mano para envíos de correo postal.

Mail Me Art: Short & Sweet Project

I am taking part in a very fun & exciting project called Mail Me Art: Short & Sweet. Invited artists have to create a handmade piece of art on a C5 envelope and then actually mail it to Mail Me Art. There will be an exhibition in London in July 2013 and a book showcasing all the mail art. All the profits from the sales go to three charities: Water Aid, Teenage Cancer Trust and Animal Aid. I invite you to stay tuned 

because I will be sharing updates of my progress and finished artwork once it is ready.

Estoy tomando parte en un proyecto muy divertido y emocionante llamado Mail Me Art: Short & Sweet. Artistas invitados deben crear un arte hecho a mano en un sobre tamaño C5 y luego enviarlo por correo postal a Mail Me Art. Se llevará a cabo una exhibición en Londres en julio de 2013 y se publicará un libro con todos los artes postales producidos. Todas las ganancias de las ventas se destinarán a tres organizaciones de ayuda: Water Aid, Teenage Cancer Trust y Animal Aid. Los invito a que se mantengan atentos ya que por este medio estaré compartiendo adelantos y el arte final cuando esté listo.
