VIA Art Prize Finalist

Nice to had the company of friends & family at the opening ceremony : ) even my little Gabo!

I am glad to share the news that my piece Aves Costeras, has been selected among the finalists for this year's VIA Art Prize. The artwork was born out of a lifelong fascination for the ocean and folk art, which normally depicts innocent subject matter found in nature: birds, fishes, animals, plants, flowers and insects. Honoured that one of my favourite pieces will be part of this special exhibition taking place from the 7th until 23rd of November at the Embassy of Brazil in London - who are kindly hosting and organizing the exhibition and awards ceremony.

Me complace compartir la noticia de que mi pieza, Aves Costeras, ha sido seleccionada entre los finalistas para el Premio VIA Art Prize de este año. La obra de arte nació de mi fascinación por el océano y el arte folklórico, que normalmente representa de forma inocente elementos del entorno natural: aves, peces, animales, plantas, flores e insectos. Me alegra que una de mis piezas favoritas sea parte de esta exposición especial que tendrá lugar del 7 al 23 de noviembre en la Embajada de Brasil en Londres, quien acoge y organiza amablemente la exposición y la entrega de premios.

Kaffe Fassett Exhibition at FTM Museum

Yesterday we visited the Kaffe Fassett - A Life in Colour exhibition at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London. The exhibition is a celebration of Fassett's 50 years of textile art career. Awarded the Turner Medal by the Colour Group, he is famous for his vibrant and colourful designs in knitting, quilting, needlepoint and mosaic. He has unarguably exerted a worldwide influence in the decorative arts.
I especially liked his hand-knitted works and pattern designs, his story and all the inspiration he received during his visits to India and Asia which had a pivotal influence into his colourful work.
The exhibition is really inspiring as you can see on selection of pictures above and is open until the 29th of June.

Ayer visitamos la exhibición Kaffe Fassett - Una Vida en Color en el Museo de Modas y Textiles en Londres. La exhibición es una celebración de sus 50 años de vida artística. Ganador de la Medalla Turner por el Grupo del Color, Kaffe Fassett es famoso por sus vibrantes y coloridos diseños en tejidos, trabajo en retazos, bordados y mosaicos. Su influencia indiscutible en las artes decorativas es mundialmente reconocida. 
En especial me encantaron sus tejidos y estampados, su historia y toda la inspiración recibida durante sus viajes a la India y Asia los cuales tuvieron una influencia crucial en su colorido trabajo. La exhibición es realmente inspiradora como se puede apreciar en selección de fotos arriba, ésta estará abierta al público hasta el 29 de junio.

Evelyn Kasikov's Workshop - stitching with Kazu

This week me and my illustrator friend Kazu Morishita went to see this year's Pick me up London Graphic Arts Festival. As you can see on pictures above, the exhibition hosted a lot of inspiring works from very talented artists. I have selected pictures from a few of the works I liked the most and would also like to mention the work of french illustrator based in London Malika Favre, whose illustrations I found amazing too despite the fact I did not include any pictures above. I end up the post with an image from a Bob Gill's quote that caught my attention at the exhibition. Pick me Up ends up tomorrow, so if you live in London you still have time to go.

Esta semana fui con mi amiga ilustradora Kazu Morishita a ver el festival de artes gráficas de este año Pick me up London. Como pueden ver en las fotos arriba, la muestra de trabajos por talentosos artistas internacionales es sumamente inspiradora. He seleccionado imágnes de algunos de los trabajos que más me gustaron y también me gustaría mencionar el trabajo de la ilustradora francesa radicada en Londres Malika Favre, cuyas ilustraciones encontré impresionantes a pesar que no he incluido imágenes arriba. Finalizo el post con una imagen de una frase de Bob Gill que me llamó la atención durante la exhibición. Pick me Up London termina mañana, si vives en Londres, aún es tiempo de ir a visitarla.
